Marion Thomas Grissom, 82,a native of Granville County, passed away at Granville Medical Center on February 15, 2017. He was the son of the late Nelson Thomas Grissom and Myrtle Cole Grissom and the husband of Sandra W. Grissom.
Marion worked at the Granville County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy and then detective for over thirty years before becoming the Sheriff of Granville County from 1986 through 1998. He was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for over twenty years, was a Deacon and a Deacon Emeritus. He was also a former member of Gideon’s International.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Providence Baptist Church with Pastor Craig Currin and Dr. Randy Pittman officiating. Burial will be in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery immediately after the funeral services.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Jamie Neil Grissom and Marvin Scott Grissom, two step-sons, Jason Henderson and Shannon Henderson, one step-daughter Christy Henderson Taylor, five grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a brother Benton Edwin Grissom (Pat). He was preceded in death by a brother William Vann Grissom.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.
